The women's soccer championship has grown rapidly in popularity, and the 2019 World Cup attracted more than one billion viewers around the world. Sweden, which won a bronze medal in 2019, had 2.3 million viewers during the semi-final against the Netherlands.

In 2023, Australia and New Zealand will host an expanded championship with 32 teams and 64 matches (compared to 24 teams and 52 matches in 2019) played over five weeks in July and August.

Sweden (number 5 on the FIFA rankings), Norway (12) and Denmark (16) are all expected to qualify for the championship, which means that the national team women have the opportunity of all time to show themselves on the world's biggest football scene.

Jubilee day

NENT Group's sports manager in Norway, Kristian Oma, says that they have big plans to gather the nation in front of the screens and engage the viewers during the upcoming championship.

- This is a jubilee day for us at Nent. With Caroline Graham Hansen and co, Norway has some of the world's best players in its squad. And we know the girls both have the power to go far - and gather the nation in front of the screen in a World Cup. We will present this in the broadest possible way, and Norway's matches will take place both on Viaplay and open linear channels, says Oma.

NENT Group's CEO, Anders Jensen, says that the acquisition of rights is perfect for the Nordic media group.

- We have one of the world's most sought - after sports packages, but 80 percent of our broadcasts cover men. This needs to change, and I'm therefore extra happy with today's news. Every year, we show more than 100 live matches from the biggest women's football leagues on Viaplay, and with the World Cup in 2023, we confirm our long-term commitment to the sport. This will be the biggest women's football championship ever, and our coverage will reach a new audience and inspire the next generation of local superstars, Jensen says.

NENT Group has exclusive Nordic rights to Barclays FA Women's Super League, Frauen-Bundesliga and Division 1 Féminine, ranked as Europe's three best football leagues. Every year, the media group shows more than 50,000 hours of world-class live sports on the company's streaming services and TV channels.
